D isney has been releasing remakes of a lot of their old classics lately. Live-actions and movies, in general, have seen a rough few years with the lack of cinema and open movie theaters. But with the threat of the pandemic slowly leaving its intensity and public gatherings coming back to life, theaters are opening back up. And Disney has an array of planned and filmed upcoming live-action films for us to look forward to. Here are 5 films that we are looking forward to most of all.

The Little Mermaid

Starring the beautiful and honey-voiced Halle Bailey of the classy RnB vocal duo “Chloe X Halle” as the beloved Princess Ariel and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, The Little Mermaid live-action remake has been one of the most anticipated films since its casting and filming was first announced. It was supposed to have been filmed in 2020 and released in 2021, but the pandemic hindered the production process. Production began again only recently and there were reports that it had resumed filming in Italy. This is certainly a remake that people are most looking forward to and we have no doubts that they will deliver everything well up to expectations!

Pinocchio

This is a remake that has been in the works since 2015 and maybe even before that. Big names like Robert Downey Jr, Paul Thomas Anderson, Peter Hedges, and then Chris Weitz have come on board to turn this 136-year-old, yet timeless, character into a live-action character on stage, and then abandoned ship. We finally got some hope of it starting filming under the supervision of critically acclaimed veteran director Robert Zemeckis who also directed the timeless Forrest Gump. And guess who else is on board this project? That’s right! None other than Mr. Tom Hanks himself.

Peter Pan and Wendy

Peter Pan has been a longtime fan and public favorite story and it seems like that isn’t about to change any time soon. The new live-action is directed by David Lowery. There have been really good Peter Pan movies over the years, so what makes this one any better. The answer is, he doesn’t want to make it ‘better', he wants to make it ‘differently’.

We’re all sitting and waiting patiently to find out what he means by that. In the meantime, all we know about this remake so far is that it stars Jude Law as Captain Hook, it won’t be released in theaters (only Disney+), and that filming was complete in June 2021. The beautiful Yara Shahidi is set to play the role of Tinkerbell and Ever Anderson will serve the main role of Wendy. Newcomer actor Alexander Molony will play the main character, Peter Pan. We are all incredibly excited about his upcoming performance.

Snow White

With an incredible set of creatives working on its production, Snow White’s very first live-action adaptation is looking extremely promising. With the screenwriter of The Girl On The Train, Erin Cressida Wilson, penning down the script and the songwriters from hit musicals The Greatest Showman and La La Land being in charge of writing the musical numbers in the film, we think that it is safe to assume that this adaptation will be no less than jaw-droppingly spectacular.

Casting announcements have not been made yet, but people have already begun to mention who their dream cast members would be. Have you decided yours?

Lilo and Stitch

The beloved Disney animated series is finally set to get a live-action rendering of its own, which will be a mix of both live-action and CGI. One of the most exciting bits about this is the fact that Chris Sanders, who originally voiced Stitch, will resume his duties and voice Stitch in the upcoming live-action as well! One look at the production crew makes one intrigued and excited at the same time. Mike Van Waes, who is well-known for his work in the horror genre, has taken on the screenwriting duties for this project. Previously, Van Waes has been known for working on the screenwriting of The Conjuring spin-off The Crooked Man. This film is also rumored to skip the theatres and be aired only on Disney+.

These are the best and most anticipated upcoming live-action remakes that are either set to be released next year or have their release dates yet to be announced. Which ones are you excited about the most?
