Y ou can make your closet not only look more spacious but also fit in twice the number of things it currently has. Seems impossible, doesn’t it? Your clothes seem to be spilling out and oh my goodness, there’s absolutely no space left for your new pairs of shoes! Chances are, you’re just not utilizing the space well. Here’s how to maximize your closet space.

Not all of us can afford a huge, luxurious, walk-in closet with fancy compartments for everything we need, but what we can do is make the best out of what we have. So, we’ve compiled for you a bunch of tricks you can use and clever ideas you can employ to make your closet space more organized so you can make the most out of it!

Clothing Rack

Place a clothing rack inside your room to hang your best and most colorful clothes where you can see them. Not only will your clothes being in public display forces you to keep them organized and clean, but this will free your closet a lot of space from possible large coats and fluffy skirts or dresses (which you can hang in your room).

Dividers

Dividers on your closet shelves or hanging rods will help you with keeping your clothing organized by color, article, or any way you want to sort your things. You can buy cute dividers online or make them yourself by following a number of DIY tutorials online.

Shower Rings On Hangers To Help With Scarves

Is your shower curtain useless? Remove the shower rings and instead of designating a single hanger to each scarf, hang all of them on the same hanger by placing shower rings on the rod of the hanger and looping your scarves through them.

Hooks On Empty Vertical Spaces

Nail up some hooks on your closet door and walls to hang up your handbags, scarves, coats, etc. Hang a laundry bag on a large hook on your closet door to throw your clothes into when you change to keep them off the floor.

Invest In A Shoe Rack

Instead of keeping all your shoes in boxes, invest in a wooden or plastic shoe rack to keep your shoes organized and within your reach. To protect them from catching dust, put them in paper or plastic bags.

Organize Small Things In Drawers

Fold your socks neatly into your drawers and divide them by color. In addition, you can also place your hair accessories, small clutches, leggings, and gloves, etc. tucked away in compartments. This will leave you with ample space to place your folded clothes.

Don’t Leave Any Space Empty

If any space is empty, don’t let it be. Plastic or wicker baskets are cheap and will help you keep your winter clothes aside. Not to mention they can double as laundry baskets. You can designate them to divide your laundry by color and fabric.

Color Coordinate

The use of dividers will help you keep the color of your outfit coordinated. Color code your drawers, shoe racks, clothing bins. All of this will help you keep everything in check and you’ll be able to find everything easily. It will also add to your closet’s aesthetic.

Purge Your Closet

Every season, purge clothes that are too old or clothes you don’t wear anymore. Donate to goodwill, ask your friends or family if they want them, cut them up to make rags, etc. There’s a number of ways they can be utilized. Don’t hoard things you’ll never wear. They’ll end up catching dust and that’s a waste of space.

Coat Rack In Your Room

If your coats are too big and take up too much space in your clothes hanging rod, invest in a coat rack. Not only does a beautiful antique coat rack add to your living space’s overall aesthetic, but will help you give a place to hang your coats. Two birds with one stone!

Place Out Of Season Clothes In Big Storage Boxes At The Top

The top of the closet is usually empty and harder to reach. For these reasons, that space often goes under-utilized. You can put it to great use by placing your out-of-season clothes inside big boxes and then stacking those boxes in that area. Alternatively, you can also use that space to store other items like books you don’t want to display.

Hopefully, these tips will give you a better idea of how to maximize your closet space and provide a practical perspective!
